As Musharraf bows out

There is quite an intermixed reaction in Pakistan about Musharraf resigning. Primarily because one cannot judge a good person by his military uniform. A patriot is a patriot whether he is in civilian or army uniform or not. Pakistan has been trying and testing military dictators and politician for years despite their good or bad repute or conduct, so why bother about Musharraf so much.
He is after all a Pakistani with a big heart and dream of making the country a success. Even if as an individual! Why shouldn’t we have given him a chance?

I personally think Musharraf shouldn’t have resigned! I like the guy! He comes from a decent working class background and worked his way up!! Unlike Bhutto’s, Zardaris, Benezir, Nawaz, Imran Khan, or religiously supported Zialuhaq and Ayub Khan.

I know of his family, and his daughter used to work with me at office, and they are very sincere Pakistanis. As I am sure a lot of others are out there in Pakistan who would like to have lead this beautiful and complex nation!!

And please don’t forget that he has been increasingly very popular in his time! Untill March 2007! So if the president decided he had become unpopular after red mosque incidence and 18 February elections and was cornered to do so by a people’s representative party then he resigned in a dignified way and I salute him for a brave decision.

And I think he got his chance his tried to prove whatever his vision of Pakistan is!! Sadly if the majority of the nation doesn’t agree then its better for him to pass the torch!!

Unfortunately democracy has its own flaws, majority cant always be right, in words of Ayn Rand democray is just an idea that ‘the public interest’ supersedes private interests and rights can have but one meaning: that the interests and rights of some individuals take precedence over the interests and rights of others.

As Musharraf bows out

As for the uncertainty in Pakistan, Well it wasn’t dependent ever on Musharraf decision only. He was just a pawn that was moved in favor of other strategically strong players on the chess board of Pakistani politics.

The country is still unstable now that it is in the hands of a twice tried duo of PPP and PML Nawaz coalition which will obviously take a new turn now that the major glue holding them together has gone, they share no more common interests as such and conflicts are bound to arise give their past records. Unless they make mature decisions at this critical point in history and make some historic decisions with in the next few months. We can only hope for the best!
